Kanadyjski aktor urodzony w 1978 roku w Vancouver. Jako dziecko grał w Mighty Ducks. Przełom przyszedł z serialem Jezioro marzeń, gdzie przez sześć sezonów grał Pacey'a Wittera. Serial uczynił go gwiazdą lat 90. Później grał w Fringe przez pięć sezonów oraz w The Affair. Wystąpił też w filmie Okrutne zamiary. Był w długim związku z Diane Kruger. Poślubił brytyjską aktorkę Jodie Turner-Smith w 2019, mają córkę. Mieszka między Los Angeles a Kanadą. Regularnie pracuje w serialach.
