Sam Shepard (5 listopada 1943 - 27 lipca 2017) był amerykańskim dramaturgiem, reżyserem teatralnym, scenarzystą, aktorstwem i pisarzem. Urodził się w Fort Sheridan w Illinois i był znany z pisania mocnych, symbolicznych sztuk teatralnych o tematyce rodzinnej i amerykańskiej tożsamości. Jego sztuki, takie jak "Buried Child" (1978) i "True West" (1980), zdobyły uznanie w Stanach Zjednoczonych i za granicą. Shepard był również aktywny jako aktor filmowy, występując w takich produkcjach jak "Days of Heaven" (1978), "The Right Stuff" (1983) i "Black Hawk Down" (2001).
