Amerykański aktor urodzony w 1961 roku w Connecticut, znany z ról w serialach telewizyjnych i filmach akcji. Przełom przyszedł wraz z serialem The Practice, gdzie przez osiem sezonów grał adwokata Bobby'ego Donnella i zdobył Złoty Glob. Później zagrał w pierwszym sezonie American Horror Story jako dr Ben Harmon. W kinie wystąpił m.in. w Stalowym magnolu i Drużynie A. Ma ciekawą historię rodzinną - jego ojczym był znany producent telewizyjny. Przez lata budował wizerunek mocnego, męskiego aktora. Prywatnie był żonaty z aktorką Shivą Rose, z którą ma córki.
